League Matches & Competitive Play

Winchester Badminton Club has a strong history of competition across the WDBA and SDBA. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, we have had to streamline our match squads. However, over the recent months from mid-2024, the club has been growing in numbers!

The club currently competes in the SDBA Open Division 2, having joined it for the first time in the 2024/2025 season. The SDBA Open format is as follows:

  • 4 players (men or women) form each team

  • Players on a team are assigned as A/B/C/D

  • Player A and B will play two sets

  • Player C and D will play two sets

  • Player A and D will play one set

  • Player B and C will play one set

  • All sets are played as best of 3 rubbers

  • Each game/rubber is played to 21 points

  • 1 point per set victory

We play our home matches on two courts with feather shuttlecocks and start promptly at 7:30 PM.

During the current season, we have 6 other clubs in our division and play a total of 12 matches.

We are currently examining whether we will field a team for the SDBA Hybrid league in the 2025/2026 season.

League Performance 2024/2025

The team is currently half way through the 2024/2025 season. Matches have been incredibly fun and occasionally very challenging. The men who makeup the team are sitting in middle of the table with plenty of games still left to play.

To support performance, the team spend a small portion of club sessions practicing in their respective pairs in order to prepare for matches and improve synergy. With a couple of incredibly strong teams sitting in Division 2 (Portsmouth and Notorious), Winchester's goal is to make it to top 3 in this season with the target being promotion in the 2025/2026 season.
